Year 3

Weekly Update of w/e 16th March 2018

We have worn many different hats this week; scientists, engineers and mathematicians, as the children have enjoyed taking part in STEM week. Year 3 had great fun on Monday afternoon, visiting all the Year 3 and 4 classes and taking part in a carousel of science experiments; we raced some flappy fish, investigated bubbles and looked at gravity and air flow in an experiment called Raining Cupcakes. We have also researched and made fact files on different scientists and investigated which biscuit has the best ‘dunk- ability!’

Next week……

We will be beginning our unit of work on explanation texts; children will be reading a range of texts and identifying their features and will then be writing their own explanation text on why the Romans’ built roads, linking in with our topic work.

We will be revising strategies for division and children will be solving problems involving multiplication and division.

Please complete task P18a and b all about plurals. Maths homework this week is a MyMaths activity on bar graphs and pictograms.

Please read the attached PowerPoint on Roman bath houses, ready for our topic lessons next week.

Please ensure your child reads at least three times per week at home. Please also sign their reading record so they can move up our Reading Challenge Ladder each week.

On Tuesday morning Fir class will be visiting Redbourn Library. Please make sure children bring a coat. If they are members of the library they can bring their library card to take out a book if they wish to.
